Feral cats are not socialized to humans and do not engage in direct eye contact with humans. In short, they want nothing to do with you. So, if you walk toward the cat and it runs away, it is probably feral. If you have a friendlier stray cat around, don’t be fooled and try to pick it up. Not all cats like being picked up and prefer all-four on the floor.
